One-and-half year old male Persian cat
Garfield was a majestically large and furry Persian who was boarded at Catopia for almost a week. He was extremely friendly in nature and had no trouble adjusting with other cats such as Akbar, Mooncake, Genie and our Gajanan. He was equally friendly with cats and humans and was happy to have so many playmates. His coat was one of the longest I have seen and he had nice prominent tabby-like markings. He looks almost like a mini-lion! The best part was that he loved being brushed.
During his stay here, as he and Mooncake were both not neutered at the time, they both went into heat and ended up mating. Unfortunately, we had no way to stop them as Mooncake even refused to stay separately in the other room. Cats in heat are completely controlled by their hormones and will not listen to anyone, which is why we no longer accept cats above 7 months of age which have not been neutered. Mooncake later gave birth to two adorable semi-Persian kittens and her parent decided to keep them instead of giving them up for adoption. Though this incident had a happy ending, not everyone can accommodate extra cats in the household as it is a big responsibility and it can be difficult to manage if it is an unplanned pregnancy. Nowadays, we advise all cat owners to neuter/spay their cat before boarding with us if it is old enough to go into heat.
