RECOMMENDED PRODUCTS

In our decades of living with cats, we have bought and tried numerous products ranging from essentials to luxury. Here are some of our favourite products from Amazon that we love and whole-heartedly recommend.

Essentials

Cat Carrier

The most important purchase you need to make as a cat parent is a safe and secure carrier. There will always be occasions when you need to transport your cat, especially for vet visits. Cats get extremely anxious while traveling and may try to escape. For this reason, it is crucial that you do not compromise by using a regular basket. There are several different models of cat carriers available, but we recommend this one as it is quite sturdy and lightweight. Avoid buying a carrier with zippers as they tend to break or malfunction easily.

Whiskas Wet Food

We always advise cat parents to feed their kids wet food instead of dry. Two of our own cats succumbed to Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), which we later found out can be caused due to dry food.

Cats are originally desert animals and have evolved to get their hydration from the food itself. This makes wet food the ideal choice to prevent dehydration and improve their overall health. We prefer Whiskas brand wet food as it is affordable, comes in different flavours and almost all cats like it.

Litter Tray with Sieve

Most cat owners don’t know that there is a much more convenient alternative to scooping up cat litter. We use this litter tray that comes with a sieve to easily filter out the clumps in one go. This makes cleaning the litter tray much easier and also more hygienic. In our opinion, this is a must-have for any cat parent.

Clumping Cat Litter

Cats’ natural instincts guide them to use the litter tray. Cat litter is one of the most important needs of your cat as it ensures that they poop and pee only in their tray. Lack of a clean toilet space can be very stressful for cats and may result in behavioural or medical issues.

Clumping cat litter, also known as bentonite litter, is great because it is dry, absorbs odours and forms clumps that can easily be separated and disposed of. We use the PetCrux brand.

Grooming Comb

Longhair breeds such as Persians need to be combed daily. Failing to do so causes their fur to become tangled and form knots that become painful. The knots are also difficult to remove if they get too big. Combing your cat’s fur for just a couple of minutes a day can prevent this. It is also a superb stress-buster for both you and your cat!

Claw Trimmer

Another aspect of grooming your cat that is often overlooked is the trimming of its claws. Not only can trimming help prevent scratches, but it also keeps them from destroying things. It also stops them from unintentionally hurting you while showing their affection by kneading.

Trimming your cat's claws is absolutely safe and does not cause any stress or pain. In fact, it improves their quality of life as the claws won't get stuck anywhere or become ingrown. The recommended frequency for trimming your cat's claws is once a month.

Cat Handling Gloves

Cats are naturally-equipped with weapons like sharp teeth and claws. This can make handling them difficult and risky, especially if they are in a bad mood. Keeping a pair of cat handling gloves in the house is always a good idea so that you can easily get a hold of your cat when you need to.

Scratching Pad

One of the common complaints from cat parents is that their cat shreds anything it can get its claws on. Providing a good scratching pad is important to ensure that they do not tear up furniture and other things in your house.

We have tried many different kinds of scratching pads and this Scratching Mat seems to be universally liked by kitties. Rub some catnip on it to encourage your cat to use it!

Vegan Cat Food – Benevo

With many Indians now switching to a vegan lifestyle, there is a desire among pet parents to avoid purchasing meat-based cat food. Benevo has created a special brand of vegan cat food that is meat-free but does not compromise on nutrition. From our experience, cats who are fed Benevo seem to be perfectly healthy and happy.

Comfort & Toys

Creamy Treats

It’s good to give your cat a treat every now and then! Pretty much all cats go crazy for Me-O creamy treats, which are available in a variety of flavours. Reserve it for weekends or special occasions, as it is basically junk food.

Organic Catnip

Cats usually go crazy for certain types of plants like lemongrass and wheatgrass. Their favourite is catnip, which makes them euphoric if smelled and helps them relax if eaten.

Catnip is especially useful to help your cat keep calm during stressful situations, such as if there is too much noise or while traveling.  Catnip is generally not recommended for kittens below 6 months of age and doesn’t have the same effect on all cats. Still, it can work wonders if your cat gets easily stressed out.

Use it occasionally and sprinkle just a little each time. The pack can easily last for more than a year as you only need to use the catnip sparingly.

Cat Tree

Cats are awesome climbers and love to perch themselves at heights. Cat trees give them a comfy place indoors to climb onto and relax. Climbing is also a good form of exercise, thereby keeping them fit and healthy.

Interactive Tower with Balls

Keeping your cat stimulated is very important as they too get bored easily. Interactive toys like this one are amazing to help them get rid of their boredom even if no one is around to play.

Three-way Tunnel

Cats love running across small places, which makes this cat tunnel one of their favourite toys. All cats seem to love this tunnel and can spend hours playing with it. After play time is done, they love to sleep in it too!

Cat Bed

Cats spend most of their time sleeping, which means they need a great bed! Your cat will love relaxing in a simple but comfy bed like this one. It doesn’t take up much space either, which makes it convenient even for small rooms.

Fuzzy Blankets

Some cats may prefer your sofa or bed rather than a separate one. To prevent their fur from being all over your furniture, you can put a fuzzy blanket on it that is very comfortable and can be cleaned easily.
