Two-and-half-year-old female Indian cat.
Ivy is a shy calico cat who barely interacted with us during her entire four-day stay. Being a slightly older and pampered cat from a single-cat household, she was a bit confused about the new environment. Though she wouldn't let us close, we kept an eye on her to make sure she was healthy and safe. This kind of reclusive behaviour was similar to other cats like Pokhlu, but as Ivy's stay was only for four days, by the time she started adjusting it was already time for her to go home. Nonetheless, now that she has explored the entire room and is familiar with us, it will be easier for her to settle in the next time she stays with us.
Update: Ivy has stayed with us a couple of more times since this article was first posted. Both times she took a long time to adjust. During her most recent stay of 16 days, she hid in inaccessible spaces such as under the cupboard and washing machine, or on top of the shelves for 13 days, even pulling her food and water bowls near her so that she doesn't need to venture out. She would only come out after midnight to stretch her legs and use the litter tray. To our utmost joy, she started warming up to us around the 5th day and was completely friendly by the 13th day, even sleeping beside Mummy on the bed at nights. It fills us with happiness when cats accept our love and return it back.
